2018-03-01arm/vexpress: Add proper display connector emulationLinus Walleij1-1/+5
This adds the SiI9022 (and implicitly EDID I2C) device to the ARM Versatile Express machine, and selects the two I2C devices necessary in the arm-softmmu.mak configuration so everything will build smoothly. I am implementing proper handling of the graphics in the Linux kernel and adding proper emulation of SiI9022 and EDID makes the driver probe as nicely as before, retrieving the resolutions supported by the "QEMU monitor" and overall just working nice. Several of the warning messages can be improved after this patch, to keep this patch mechanical this has been moved into a later patch. there are 2 use cases to deal with: 1: fixed CPU models per board/soc 2: boards with user configurable cpu_model and fallback to default cpu_model if user hasn't specified one explicitly For the 1st drop intermediate cpu_model parsing and use const cpu type directly, which replaces: typename = object_class_get_name( cpu_class_by_name(TYPE_ARM_CPU, cpu_model)) object_new(typename) with object_new(FOO_CPU_TYPE_NAME) or cpu_generic_init(BASE_CPU_TYPE, "my cpu model") with cpu_create(FOO_CPU_TYPE_NAME) as result 1st use case doesn't have to invoke not necessary translation and not needed code is removed. For the 2nd 1: set default cpu type with MachineClass::default_cpu_type and 2: use generic cpu_model parsing that done before machine_init() is run and: 2.1: drop custom cpu_model parsing where pattern is: typename = object_class_get_name( cpu_class_by_name(TYPE_ARM_CPU, cpu_model)) [parse_features(typename, cpu_model, &err) ] 2.2: or replace cpu_generic_init() which does what 2.1 does + create_cpu(typename) with just create_cpu(machine->cpu_type) as result cpu_name -> cpu_type translation is done using generic machine code one including parsing optional features if supported/present (removes a bunch of duplicated cpu_model parsing code) and default cpu type is defined in an uniform way within machine_class_init callbacks instead of adhoc places in boadr's machine_init code. 2017-09-07hw/arm: Set ignore_memory_transaction_failures for most ARM boardsPeter Maydell1-0/+1
Set the MachineClass flag ignore_memory_transaction_failures for almost all ARM boards. This means they retain the legacy behaviour that accesses to unimplemented addresses will RAZ/WI rather than aborting, when a subsequent commit adds support for external aborts. The exceptions are: * virt -- we know that guests won't try to prod devices that we don't describe in the device tree or ACPI tables * mps2 -- this board was written to use unimplemented-device for all the ranges with devices we don't yet handle New boards should not set the flag, but instead be written like the mps2. 2017-02-21hw: Default -drive to if=none instead of scsi when scsi cannot workMarkus Armbruster1-1/+0
Block backends defined with -drive if=scsi are meant to be picked up by machine initialization code: a suitable frontend gets created and wired up automatically. if=scsi drives not picked up that way can still be used with -device as if they had if=none, but that's unclean and best avoided. Unused ones produce an "Orphaned drive without device" warning. A few machine types default to if=scsi, even though they don't actually have a SCSI HBA. This makes no sense. 2017-02-10target-arm: Declare virtio-mmio as dma-coherent in dtAlexander Graf1-0/+1
QEMU emulated hardware is always dma coherent with its guest. We do annotate that correctly on the PCI host controller, but left out virtio-mmio. Recent kernels have started to interpret that flag rather than take dma coherency as granted with virtio-mmio. While that is considered a kernel bug, as it breaks previously working systems, it showed that our dt description is incomplete. This patch adds the respective marker that allows guest OSs to evaluate that our virtio-mmio devices are indeed cache coherent. 2016-03-22include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.hMarkus Armbruster1-0/+1
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h, compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a similar job to this file and are under similar constraints." qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of 100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need. Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List. Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h, sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h comment quoted above similarly. This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. This patch aligns the prototype with qemu_fdt_getprop. The caller can choose whether the function self-asserts on error (passing &error_fatal as Error ** argument, corresponding to the legacy behavior), or behaves differently such as simply output a message. In this later case the caller can use the new lenp parameter to interpret the error if any. 2015-09-18Fix bad error handling after memory_region_init_ram()Markus Armbruster1-3/+3
Symptom: $ qemu-system-x86_64 -m 10000000 Unexpected error in ram_block_add() at /work/armbru/qemu/exec.c:1456: upstream-qemu: cannot set up guest memory 'pc.ram': Cannot allocate memory Aborted (core dumped) Root cause: commit ef701d7 screwed up handling of out-of-memory conditions. Before the commit, we report the error and exit(1), in one place, ram_block_add(). The commit lifts the error handling up the call chain some, to three places. Fine. Except it uses &error_abort in these places, changing the behavior from exit(1) to abort(), and thus undoing the work of commit 3922825 "exec: Don't abort when we can't allocate guest memory". The three places are: * memory_region_init_ram() Commit 4994653 (right after commit ef701d7) lifted the error handling further, through memory_region_init_ram(), multiplying the incorrect use of &error_abort. This is the fix. If the last argument is anything else, its position is reported. This lets us check the fix is complete. Four positions get reported: * ram_backend_memory_alloc() Error is passed up the call chain, ultimately through user_creatable_complete(). As far as I can tell, it's callers all handle the error sanely. * fsl_imx25_realize(), fsl_imx31_realize(), dp8393x_realize() DeviceClass.realize() methods, errors handled sanely further up the call chain. We're good. Test case again behaves: $ qemu-system-x86_64 -m 10000000 qemu-system-x86_64: cannot set up guest memory 'pc.ram': Cannot allocate memory [Exit 1 ] The next commits will repair the rest of commit ef701d7's damage. Three kinds of callers: 1. On failure, report the error and abort Passing &error_abort does the job. No functional change. 2. On failure, report the error and exit() This is qdev_prop_set_drive_nofail(). Error reporting moves from qdev_prop_set_drive() to its caller. Because hiding away the error in the monitor right before exit() isn't helpful, replace qerror_report_err() by error_report_err(). Shouldn't make a difference, because qdev_prop_set_drive_nofail() should never be used in QMP context. 3. On failure, report the error and recover This is usb_msd_init() and scsi_bus_legacy_add_drive(). Error reporting and freeing the error object moves from qdev_prop_set_drive() to its callers. Because usb_msd_init() can't run in QMP context, replace qerror_report_err() by error_report_err() there. No functional change. scsi_bus_legacy_add_drive() calling qerror_report_err() is of course inappropriate, but this commit merely makes it more obvious. The next one will clean it up. Device models should access their block backends only through the block-backend.h API. Convert them, and drop direct includes of inappropriate headers. Just four uses of BlockDriverState are left: * The Xen paravirtual block device backend (xen_disk.c) opens images itself when set up via xenbus, bypassing blockdev.c. I figure it should go through qmp_blockdev_add() instead. * Device model "usb-storage" prompts for keys. No other device model does, and this one probably shouldn't do it, either. * ide_issue_trim_cb() uses bdrv_aio_discard() instead of blk_aio_discard() because it fishes its backend out of a BlockAIOCB, which has only the BlockDriverState. * PC87312State has an unused BlockDriverState[] member. Right now to run firmware inside the QEMU VExpress model requires padding out the firmware image to the size of the virtual flash and passing it in via the -pflash argument. If the firmware image is passed without padding, then QEMU will fail. Also, when passed as a -pflash argument, QEMU treats the file as persistent storage and will modify the file. The -bios flag provides the semantics that we want for providing a firmware image. This patch maps the contents of the -bios file into the address space at the boot flash location. Tested with the vexpress-a15 model and the Tianocore port. Newer versions of the Linux kernel (as of commit bc41b8724 in 3.12) now assume that if the CPU is a Cortex-A9 and the reset value of the PERIPHBASE/CBAR register is zero then the CPU is a specific buggy single core A9 SoC, and will not try to start other cores. Since we now have a CPU property for the reset value of the CBAR, we can just fix the vexpress board model to correctly set CBAR so SMP works again. To avoid duplicate boilerplate code in both the A9 and A15 daughterboard init functions, we split out the CPU and private memory region init to its own function. Fix NOR flash manufacturer and device ID reading. This now properly takes into account device widths and device max widths as required. The reading of these IDs uses the same max_width dependent addressing as CFI queries. The old code remains for chips that don't specify a device width, as the new code relies on a device width being set in order to properly operate. The existing code seems very broken. Only ident0 and ident1 are used in the new code, as other fields relate to the lock state of blocks in flash. The VExpress flash configuration has been updated to match the new code, as the existing definition was 'wrong' in order to return the expected results with the broken device ID code.
