2012-08-02Support 'help' as a synonym for '?' in command line optionsPeter Maydell1-1/+1
For command line options which permit '?' meaning 'please list the permitted values', add support for 'help' as a synonym, by abstracting the check out into a helper function. This change means that in some cases where we were being lazy in our string parsing, "?junk" will now be rejected as an invalid option rather than being (undocumentedly) treated the same way as "?". Update the documentation to use 'help' rather than '?', since '?' is a shell metacharacter and thus prone to fail confusingly if there is a single character filename in the current working directory and the '?' has not been escaped. It's therefore better to steer users towards 'help', though '?' is retained for backwards compatibility. We do not, however, update the output of the system emulator's -help (or any documentation autogenerated from the qemu-options.hx which is the source of the -help text) because libvirt parses our -help output and will break. At a later date when QEMU provides a better interface so libvirt can avoid having to do this, we can update the -help text too. 2012-06-04qemu-option: qemu_opts_create(): use error_set()Luiz Capitulino1-1/+1
This commit converts qemu_opts_create() from qerror_report() to error_set(). Currently, most calls to qemu_opts_create() can't fail, so most callers don't need any changes. The two cases where code checks for qemu_opts_create() erros are: 1. Initialization code in vl.c. All of them print their own error messages directly to stderr, no need to pass the Error object 2. The functions opts_parse(), qemu_opts_from_qdict() and qemu_chr_parse_compat() make use of the error information and they can be called from HMP or QMP. Next commit will convert the query-status command to use the RunState type as generated by the QAPI. In order to "transparently" replace the current enum by the QAPI one, we have to make some changes to some enum values. As the changes are simple renames, I'll do them in one shot. 2011-09-15Replace the VMSTOP macros with a proper state typeLuiz Capitulino1-1/+1
Today, when notifying a VM state change with vm_state_notify(), we pass a VMSTOP macro as the 'reason' argument. This is not ideal because the VMSTOP macros tell why qemu stopped and not exactly what the current VM state is. One example to demonstrate this problem is that vm_start() calls vm_state_notify() with reason=0, which turns out to be VMSTOP_USER. 2009-09-12Fix sys-queue.h conflict for goodBlue Swirl1-6/+6
Problem: Our file sys-queue.h is a copy of the BSD file, but there are some additions and it's not entirely compatible. Because of that, there have been conflicts with system headers on BSD systems. Some hacks have been introduced in the commits 15cc9235840a22c289edbe064a9b3c19c5f49896, f40d753718c72693c5f520f0d9899f6e50395e94, 96555a96d724016e13190b28cffa3bc929ac60dc and 3990d09adf4463eca200ad964cc55643c33feb50 but the fixes were fragile. 2009-08-27qdev: convert watchdogsMarkus Armbruster1-20/+6
-watchdog NAME is now equivalent to -device NAME, except it treats option argument '?' specially, and supports only one watchdog. A side effect is that a device created with -watchdog may now receive a different PCI address. i6300esb is now available on any machine with a PCI bus, not just PCs. ib700 is still PC only, but that could be changed easily. The only remaining use of struct WatchdogTimerModel and watchdog_add_model() is supporting '-watchdog ?'. Should be replaced by searching device_info_list for watchdog devices when we can identify them there. Also fixes ib700 not to use vm_clock before it is initialized: in wdt_ib700_init(), called from register_watchdogs(), which runs before init_timers().
