2013-06-27rdma: introduce capability x-rdma-pin-allMichael R. Hines1-0/+2
This capability allows you to disable dynamic chunk registration for better throughput on high-performance links. For example, using an 8GB RAM virtual machine with all 8GB of memory in active use and the VM itself is completely idle using a 40 gbps infiniband link: 1. x-rdma-pin-all disabled total time: approximately 7.5 seconds @ 9.5 Gbps 2. x-rdma-pin-all enabled total time: approximately 4 seconds @ 26 Gbps These numbers would of course scale up to whatever size virtual machine you have to migrate using RDMA. Enabling this feature does *not* have any measurable affect on migration *downtime*. This is because, without this feature, all of the memory will have already been registered already in advance during the bulk round and does not need to be re-registered during the successive iteration rounds. These are the prototypes and implementation of new hooks that RDMA takes advantage of to perform dynamic page registration. An optional hook is also introduced for a custom function to be able to override the default save_page function. Also included are the prototypes and accessor methods used by arch_init.c which invoke funtions inside savevm.c to call out to the hooks that may or may not have been overridden inside of QEMUFileOps. The "info mtree" command in QEMU console prints only "memory" and "I/O" address spaces while there are actually a lot more other AddressSpace structs created by PCI and VIO devices. Those devices do not normally have names and therefore not present in "info mtree" output. The patch fixes this. Add a new memory region type that translates addresses it is given, then forwards them to a target address space. This is similar to an alias, except that the mapping is more flexible than a linear translation and trucation, and also less efficient since the translation happens at runtime. The implementation uses an AddressSpace mapping the target region to avoid hierarchical dispatch all the way to the resolved region; only iommu regions are looked up dynamically. So far, the size of all regions passed to listeners could fit in 64 bits, because artificial regions (containers and aliases) are eliminated by the memory core, leaving only device regions which have reasonable sizes An IOMMU however cannot be eliminated by the memory core, and may have an artificial size, hence we may need 65 bits to represent its size. 2013-06-20exec: Resolve subpages in one step except for IOTLB fillsJan Kiszka1-0/+4
Except for the case of setting the IOTLB entry in TCG mode, we can avoid the subpage dispatching handlers and do the resolution directly on address_space_lookup_region. An IOTLB entry describes a full page, not only the region that the first access to a sub-divided page may return. This patch therefore introduces a special translation function, address_space_translate_for_iotlb, that avoids the subpage resolutions. In contrast, callers of the existing address_space_translate service will now always receive the terminal memory region section. 2013-06-14configure: dtc: Probe for libfdt_env.hPeter Crosthwaite1-36/+0
Currently QEMU provides a local clone of the file libfdt_env.h in /include. This file is supposed to come with the libfdt package and is only needed for broken installs of libfdt. Now that we have submodule dtc, just ignore these broken installs and prompt for the dtc submodule install instead. QEMU's local libfdt_env.h is removed accordingly. Manifests as a bug when building QEMU with modern libfdt. The new version of libfdt does not compile when QEMUs libfdt_env.h takes precedence over the hosts.
